Australian Shakespeare Festival

The Australian Shakespeare Festival, the major new Australian multi-arts festival will have its inaugural season in Hobart this year. Six streams of Shakespeare-infused arts will offer over 10,000 seats to audiences throughout the three-week festival program, encompassing Play, Opera, Revue, Film, Music and Fringe events and performances.

Visitors to the Australian Shakespeare Festival will experience world-class productions in rotating repertory of William Shakespeare’s play, a Comedy of Errors, the first all-professional production in Australia of Ralph Vaughan Williams comic opera, Sir John in Love (based on The Merry Wives of Windsor) and Christopher Luscombe and Malcolm McKee’s irreverently funny and irrepressible paean to the Bard: The Shakespeare Revue, transformed into a magical world of theatre for theatre goers of all ages.

Festival of Broadway

See the Academy and Grammy Award winner live on stage, hear his music in a series of concerts by the best of Australian talent, and then watch new Australian talent take shape, as Schwartz and a team of prominent directors and producers lead a unique training opportunity for composers, librettists and lyricists.

An Evening with Stephen Schwartz a once in a lifetime chance to meet the man behind the music – Stephen Schwartz’s lyrics have given voice to some of the great characters of Broadway, but now the voice is his alone. In a live interview with Michael A Kerker, follow the progression of his life and music, from New York beginnings, via Juilliard and into musical theatre history. And like a musical itself, songs will pave the way. Renditions of all Schwartz’s greatest hits will be performed by the star-studded Festival of Broadway band, with – in a true meeting of Broadway greats – the Emmy Award winning voice of Hollywood heroines Anastasia and Princess Jasmine: Liz Callaway.
